Mississippi’s 2nd Deaf Festival, DEAFFEST 2013
DEAFFEST MISSISSIPPI started with a dream in August 2010. It was time for Mississippi to put itself on the map. In order to do that, something BIG had to happen for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in our great state.
What is DEAFFEST? DEAFFEST is a festival that occurs to bring everyone together and share a day of new experiences, to learn new things, to see old friends, to make new friends, and to be in awe of something you may have never witnessed before.
This festival is an event for everyone from both the deaf and hearing communities. It is an opportunity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children or any child to see what possibilities may lay ahead for them. It takes a willingness to dream and follow that dream with passion and motivation. The event is for anyone, whether Deaf, Hard of Hearing, a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) or a hearing individual. You are truly welcome whether you use American Sign Language or you do not. Come be apart of something WONDERFUL. Come see entertainment at its very best!
With all of that said, this is how DEAFFEST 2011, came to be. It was a great success! After the committee witnessed such a huge and successful event and received many requests have a Deaf Festival in Mississippi annually, the committee decided that a bi-annual Deaf Festival would be the way to proceed. Hence, DEAFFEST 2013!
